Leo Meyerson is a true radio pioneer. His
World Radio Laboratories developed one of the
first single side band rigs, and their Galaxy
radios were the first to use transistors
hybrid with tubes. Leo flew around the world
on a SAC aircraft with Arthur Collins with his
500 Watt Globe King AM transmitter to test
compared with Art's KWS-1 1000 Watt SSB
transmitter. SSB proved itself, and the race
was on. Leo developed new methods for
manufacturing crystals during World War II
which were adopted by all the crystal
manufacturers and earning him the Army "E"
Award. Leo gave away part of his company
which then became Hy-Gain Electronics.

Leo is in the QCWA Hall of Fame and a Dayton
Ham of the Year. Leo Installed Maine's QCWA
Pine Tree Chapter, which he and Glenn Baxter,
K1MAN, started together years ago. AARA and
IARN are proud to offer this grand Award which
honors Leo and his commitment to excellence in
amateur radio.
